Chapter 10 - THE CHILD WHO KNEW HER NAME

Natalie was waiting at a bus stop when a little girl suddenly sat beside her.
The girl couldn’t have been more than six.
She stared at Natalie.
Then she said:
“You’re late.”
Natalie smiled.
“Late for what?”
The girl looked confused.
Then she said Natalie’s name.
Not “ma’am.”
Not “lady.”
Her actual name.
Natalie had never seen her before.
A woman nearby suddenly ran toward them.
She grabbed the girl’s hand.
“I’m sorry,” she said.
Natalie asked how the child knew her.
The woman looked terrified.
“She doesn’t.”
Then she pulled the girl away.
That night, Natalie searched the neighborhood.
She found an old memorial near the bus stop.
A six-year-old girl had died there years earlier.
Her name was the same as the little girl’s.

Natalie never saw the woman or child again.
