Chapter 13 - THE MAN AT THE GAS STATION

Michael stopped at a gas station at 2 AM.

While filling his tank, an old man approached him.

“Don’t take the highway.”

Michael looked confused.

“Why?”

The man didn’t explain.

Michael thanked him and left.

Instead of taking the highway, he followed a slower back road.

Twenty minutes later, he saw flashing police lights in the distance.

A major accident had shut down the highway.

Michael wondered who the stranger was.

He returned to the gas station the next morning.

The cashier said nobody had been there around 2 AM.

Michael described the man.

The cashier became silent.

Then he pointed toward a framed photograph behind the counter.

It was the same man.

The cashier said:

“He died twelve years ago.”
