Chapter 9 - THE THREE COINS

After moving into a new apartment, Lauren kept finding coins on her doorstep.
Always three.
Always arranged in a straight line.
She threw them away.
The next morning, three more appeared.
She asked her landlord.
He shrugged.
“Maybe someone is messing with you.”
Then one night, Lauren found the coins inside her apartment.
She hadn’t heard the door open.
The next day, she searched the building’s history.
A previous tenant had died alone in the apartment decades earlier.
According to the old newspaper article, he had placed three coins outside his door every night.
Nobody knew why.
Lauren stopped touching the coins.
Instead, she left them exactly where they appeared.
A week later, there were only two.
The next morning, there was one.
Then none.
That same day, Lauren received a phone call.
Her father had passed away.

The time of death was the exact time she had found the final coin.
