Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN IN THE ELEVATOR

Samantha lived on the 14th floor of an apartment building in Chicago.
Every night at exactly 11:11, the elevator stopped on her floor.
The doors opened.
Nobody was inside.
The first few times, she ignored it.
Then one night, she stepped inside.
An elderly woman was standing in the corner.
Samantha smiled.
“Going down?”
The woman didn’t respond.
Samantha pressed the lobby button.
The woman whispered:
“Not yet.”
The elevator stopped.
The lights flickered.
When they came back on, Samantha was alone.
The next day, she asked the building manager about the woman.
He became quiet.
“There was an elderly resident on your floor,” he said.
“When?”
He looked at her.
“Twenty years ago.”
“She died in that elevator.”
Samantha never used the elevator at 11:11 again.
But sometimes, when she passed it in the hallway, she could hear someone whisper:
May you like
“Not yet.”
