Chapter 3 - THE FIRST BETRAYAL

Emily’s first secret meeting with an investor happened after midnight.

The investor had been one of Carter’s most loyal partners for years.

Emily smiled across the table.

“You’ve invested in Carter’s company for a long time.”

The investor nodded.

“Because I trust him.”

Emily leaned closer.

“What if you invested in something younger?”

The investor looked curious.

“What are you suggesting?”

Emily had already prepared the documents.

A new company.

A new brand.

A new future.

Her company.

At first, the investor refused.

Then Emily began showing him projections.

She spoke confidently.

She made him believe that Carter’s company was old and slow.

Within weeks, the investor moved part of his money into Emily’s new venture.

Then another investor followed.

Then another.

Emily kept telling herself it wasn’t betrayal.

It was business.

Soon, she had enough money to officially launch her company.

Carter began noticing that several investors were suddenly asking to withdraw.

He couldn’t understand why.

Then one morning, his assistant placed a folder on his desk.

Inside were documents showing Emily’s new company.

Carter stared at the name.

He already knew.

Emily had been building it behind his back.
