Chapter 13 - BACK TO WHERE IT STARTED

Months passed.
Emily’s life became painfully simple.
No mansion.
No luxury car.
No assistants.
No people waiting outside her office.
She returned to the same neighborhood where she had once worked as a waitress.
One evening, she stood outside the old restaurant.
The sign had changed, but the building was still there.
Emily looked through the window.
A young waitress was cleaning tables.
She looked exhausted.
Emily suddenly remembered herself.
Then she saw an older man enter.
Gray hair.
Simple clothes.
A familiar face.
Carter.
The young waitress accidentally dropped a glass.
She panicked.
Carter simply smiled.
“It’s okay.”
Emily watched from outside.
Then Carter placed a business card beside the check.
Emily’s eyes filled with tears.
She remembered everything.
The rainy night.
The card.
The first job.
The first chance.
May you like
And the promise she had forgotten.
