Chapter 2 - THE DOOR HE OPENED
Emily called Carter three days later.
She expected nothing.
Instead, Carter offered her an entry-level position at his company.
The salary wasn’t enormous, but it was enough for Emily to leave the restaurant and rent a small apartment.
Carter personally made sure she received proper training.
He taught her how to speak with clients.
How to negotiate.
How to read financial reports.
How to recognize a good opportunity.
Emily worked harder than almost everyone around her.
Carter noticed.
He started bringing her into important meetings.
At first, Emily sat quietly at the end of the table.
Then she began asking questions.
Soon, she was presenting ideas herself.
Carter was proud of her.
One afternoon, he told her:
“Emily, talent can open a door. Character decides how far you go.”
Emily smiled.
“I won’t forget what you did for me.”
Carter nodded.
“I hope you don’t.”
But as Emily’s world became bigger, something inside her began to change.
She discovered that people listened differently when she walked into a room.
And she discovered something else.
People were attracted to her.
Investors who barely noticed her during business meetings suddenly wanted private conversations.
Emily noticed.
