The folder contained years of financial records.
Emails.
Messages.
Contracts.
Investor transfers.
Everything.
Carter had kept copies of the original communications.
Emily’s private meetings with investors.
The promises she made.
The misleading projections she presented.
The money transferred into her new company.
Then another folder appeared.
Emily’s financial statements.
Several numbers had been manipulated before the eighty-million-dollar acquisition.
Emily’s lawyer looked at her.
“Is this accurate?”
Emily couldn’t answer.
The room became silent.
Carter finally spoke.
“I didn’t bring you here because you betrayed me.”
Emily looked up.
“Then why?”
“Because you never learned from it.”
He pointed toward the documents.
“You took my investors.”
“You humiliated people who were beneath you.”
“You fired Mia for helping someone.”
“And now you were prepared to sell a company using financial information that wasn’t completely honest.”
Emily began crying.
“Please don’t do this.”
Carter’s answer was simple.
“I don’t have to.”
He closed the folder.
