Chapter 6 - THE EXTRA PERSON
Emma’s birthday party was perfect.
Ten friends.
A lake house.
Music.
Food.
Too many photographs.
The next morning, Emma posted one of them online.
A friend commented:
“Who is the guy behind you?”
Emma laughed.
Then she zoomed in.
There was a man standing behind the group.
Black jacket.
Pale face.
Nobody recognized him.
They counted the people in the photograph.
Ten.
Exactly ten had attended.
But there were eleven people in the picture.
Emma checked the other photos.
The man was in every one.
Sometimes far away.
Sometimes standing beside someone.
In one picture, he was directly behind Emma.
She zoomed in.
He was smiling.
Emma deleted the post.
Then she noticed something.
The man wasn’t wearing the same clothes in the different photographs.
He was getting closer.
By the final picture…
he was standing in the middle of the group.
Everyone else was looking at the camera.
