Chapter 4 - THE EMPTY SEAT

Michael was driving home after midnight.

The highway was almost empty.

He turned on the radio.

An old song began playing.

Ten minutes later, he glanced at the rearview mirror.

Someone was sitting in the back seat.

A woman.

Long dark hair.

White shirt.

Michael’s heart jumped.

He turned around.

Nothing.

The seat was empty.

He laughed nervously.

“I’m just tired.”

He turned back toward the road.

The radio suddenly changed stations.

A woman’s voice whispered through the speakers.

“You’re almost home.”

Michael immediately turned the radio off.

The car became completely silent.

He checked the rearview mirror again.

Empty.

When he finally arrived home, he opened the back door.

Nothing.

Then he noticed something.

The seat cushion was pressed down.

As if someone had been sitting there.

The next morning, Michael checked his dashcam.

The recording was normal.

Highway.

Streetlights.

Empty roads.

Then, at 12:43 AM, the rear camera showed something impossible.

A woman was sitting behind him.

She was looking directly into the camera.

Michael paused the video.

Zoomed in.

Her face became clearer.

It was his mother.

She had died eight years earlier.
