Chapter 15 - THINGS WE CAN’T EXPLAIN

Years later, Emily still kept the original security footage of Max.

Daniel still had the unknown caller’s message.

Sarah never replaced the bathroom mirror.

Michael stopped driving alone at night.

Laura moved away from the house with the light.

Emma deleted every photograph from the birthday party.

James never slept through the night again.

Claire never missed a train by accident.

Jason kept his wife’s final voicemail.

Olivia refused to drive past house number 214.

Mark stopped taking photographs of his living room.

Robert still visits the old bus stop every rainy morning.

Anna never returned to the house.

And Megan…

still receives the photographs.

None of them know each other.

None of their stories appeared in the news.

None of them have proof that what happened was supernatural.

There are explanations for almost everything.

Dogs hear things humans don’t.

Phones malfunction.

People misremember.

Reflections distort.

Cameras glitch.

Coincidences happen.

Memory can be unreliable.

Fear can make ordinary things seem extraordinary.

That’s what everyone tells themselves.

And maybe they’re right.

Maybe every story has a perfectly reasonable explanation.

Maybe there is no warning.

No message.

No unseen presence.

No one watching from somewhere we cannot see.

Maybe.

But there is one thing these people all discovered:

Sometimes something happens…

and you know, deep down, that you weren’t supposed to be there.

You weren’t supposed to take that train.

You weren’t supposed to leave the house.

You weren’t supposed to get into the car.

You weren’t supposed to look into the mirror.

And sometimes…

the smallest, most ordinary thing changes everything.

A dog that refuses to move.

A phone call from nowhere.

A shoelace that suddenly comes undone.

A light in an empty house.

A photograph that shouldn’t exist.

A voice from someone who is gone.

We call them coincidences because we need a word for things we don’t understand.

But every once in a while…

a coincidence feels like something more.

And when that happens,

there is only one question left:

Was it really a coincidence?

Or was someone trying to warn you?

Some stories are meant to be understood.

Others are only meant to be remembered.
