Chapter 14 - THE LAST PHOTO

Megan loved taking photographs.

One evening, she went hiking alone.

At sunset, she took a picture of the trail.

Nothing unusual.

She took another.

Then another.

When she returned home, she looked through the photographs.

The first two were normal.

The third wasn’t.

There was a man standing between the trees.

Megan zoomed in.

She didn’t recognize him.

She checked the location.

The man had been standing directly behind her.

She looked at the fourth photograph.

He was closer.

The fifth.

Closer.

The sixth.

He was only a few feet away.

Megan dropped the phone.

She checked the final photograph.

The man was gone.

But someone else was standing there.

Megan.

Wearing the exact clothes she had been wearing.

Except the woman in the photograph was covered in dirt.

And she was pointing toward the camera.

Megan never returned to that trail.

But every year on the same date, her phone receives one new photograph.

No sender.

No message.

Just an image of the trail.

And each year…

the woman in the picture is standing a little closer.
