Chapter 6 - THE SECRET GRANDMA BURIED

Daniel stared at the document.
He didnât move.
He didnât speak.
For the first time since I met him, I saw fear in his eyes.
Not anger.
Not frustration.
Fear.
âWhat is this?â he asked again.
Richard looked at Evelyn.
âShe knows.â
Evelynâs face became cold.
âDonât do this.â
Daniel opened the document.
His eyes moved across the page.
Then stopped.
âWhatâŠâ
His voice broke.
I stepped closer.
âDaniel?â
He looked at me.
âI was adopted.â
The words hit harder than I expected.
Evelyn immediately spoke.
âDonât listen to him.â
Daniel looked at her.
âIs it true?â
Silence.
That silence was the answer.
âMom?â
Evelyn looked away.
And for the first time, she looked old.
Not powerful.
Not untouchable.
Just tired.
âI did what I had to do.â
Daniel shook his head.
âWhat does that even mean?â
Richard stepped forward.
âYour mother was afraid of losing control.â
Evelynâs eyes flashed.
âEnough.â
âNo,â Richard said. âHe deserves the truth.â
Daniel looked at both of them.
âWho were my real parents?â
Nobody answered.
Then Evelyn whispered:
âThey were people who would have destroyed your life.â
âThatâs not an answer!â
She finally exploded.
âBecause I saved you!â
The room went silent.
Evelynâs breathing became heavy.
âI saved you from them.â
Daniel stared.
âYou stole me.â
âNo.â
âYou lied to me my entire life.â
âI gave you a family.â
Daniel looked broken.
But then his expression changed.
Because suddenly, everything connected.
The tea.
The camera.
The threats.
âYou did this because Ethan found something.â
Evelyn looked away.
Daniel stepped closer.
âWhat did he find?â
Her silence confirmed it.
My heart started racing.
âWhat did Ethan find?â
Evelyn looked at me.
Then at Daniel.
And she said something terrifying.
âYour son found the same thing you found when you were his age.â
Daniel froze.
âWhat?â
âThe truth.â
Nobody spoke.
Evelyn walked toward the door.
âYou think this is about tea?â
She stopped.
âIt was never about the tea.â
Daniel followed her with his eyes.
âThen what is it about?â
She turned around.
âItâs about what happens when a family secret refuses to stay buried.â
Then she left.
Daniel stood there, completely still.
I grabbed his hand.
âDanielâŠâ
He looked at me.
His face was filled with confusion and anger.
Then his phone buzzed.
A message.
From an unknown number.
He opened it.
It was a picture.
A picture of Ethan.
Sleeping in his hospital bed.
Under the photo were six words.
STOP DIGGING, OR LOSE HIM.
Danielâs hands started shaking.
Because now we knew.
This wasnât just a family secret anymore.
May you like
Someone was willing to hurt our son to protect it.
