Chapter 8 - THE MAID WHO SAW EVERYTHING

Rachel stood near the front entrance.
Her coat was already on.
A small bag was in her hand.
Adrian approached slowly.
“Rachel.”
She stopped.
Tears filled her eyes.
“I’m sorry.”
“Why were you leaving?”
She looked at Emma.
The little girl was holding her rabbit tightly.
“Because I knew this would happen.”
Adrian frowned.
“What?”
Rachel looked around.
Then whispered:
“The moment you opened that closet, my life was over.”
Nobody spoke.
Adrian stepped closer.
“What do you know?”
Rachel looked terrified.
“I know what happened the night Mrs. Westwood died.”
The entire hallway went silent.
Madison looked away.
Caleb closed his eyes.
Adrian felt his heart stop.
“Tell me.”
Rachel shook her head.
“I can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because they threatened my daughter.”
Adrian looked at Emma.
“What did they threaten?”
Rachel started crying.
“They told me if I ever spoke…”
She paused.
“They would make Emma disappear.”
Adrian immediately looked toward security.
“Lock every exit.”
The guards moved.
Nobody left.
Not Madison.
Not Caleb.
Not anyone.
Adrian looked at Rachel.
“Now tell me the truth.”
Rachel wiped her tears.
“Mrs. Westwood didn’t die because of the storm.”
A cold silence filled the house.
“She died because someone wanted her silent.”
Then Emma spoke.
“The blue lady was there.”
Everyone turned.
Madison froze.
Rachel looked at her daughter.
“Emma…”
But the little girl continued.
“She was angry with Mrs. Westwood.”
Adrian looked at Madison.
“Why?”
May you like
Emma hugged her rabbit.
“Because Mrs. Westwood found the papers.”
