Chapter 11 - THE MOTHER WHO HID THE TRUTH

The room went completely silent.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Adrian stared at the frozen image on the screen.
His mother.
Margaret Westwood.
Standing beside Claire’s car on the night she died.
“No.”
The word escaped his mouth like a broken whisper.
Margaret’s face lost all color.
“Adrian…”
He slowly turned toward her.
“Tell me this is fake.”
She opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
That silence hurt more than any confession.
Natalie covered her mouth.
“Oh my God.”
Caleb looked down.
Because he already knew.
Adrian noticed.
“You knew.”
Caleb closed his eyes.
“Caleb.”
His voice became colder.
“You knew my mother was there.”
Caleb swallowed.
“Yes.”
The room exploded.
Adrian grabbed the edge of the desk.
His entire world felt like it was collapsing.
“You watched me bury my wife.”
His voice shook.
“You stood beside me at the funeral.”
“You told me to let go.”
Caleb looked broken.
“I was trying to protect you.”
Adrian laughed.
A painful laugh.
“Protect me?”
He pointed at the screen.
“You protected the people who destroyed my life.”
Margaret finally stepped forward.
“Adrian, listen to me.”
He looked at her.
“Why were you there?”
She looked away.
“Because Claire came to me.”
The room froze.
“What?”
Margaret’s eyes filled with tears.
“She discovered the money transfers.”
“She discovered what Madison and Caleb were doing.”
Adrian stared.
“And you knew?”
Margaret nodded slowly.
“Yes.”
The answer destroyed him.
“Then why didn’t you tell me?”
May you like
Margaret whispered:
“Because Claire was going to destroy this family.”
