Chapter 14 - THE REAL ENEMY INSIDE WESTWOOD
Adrian immediately looked toward the cameras.
“What are you saying?”
Madison stepped closer.
“Claire discovered the truth.”
“She found out someone inside the family was using Westwood Holdings to hide crimes.”
Adrian’s voice was low.
“Who?”
Madison looked at Margaret.
Then at Caleb.
Then finally at Adrian.
“Your father.”
Nobody breathed.
Because Adrian’s father had died ten years earlier.
“That’s impossible.”
Madison shook her head.
“No.”
“He didn’t die with the secrets.”
“He left them behind.”
She pointed toward Claire’s files.
“Your wife found evidence.”
Adrian grabbed the folder.
“What evidence?”
Madison walked closer.
“The final page.”
Adrian opened it.
At the bottom of the folder was another document.
A handwritten note from Claire.
“If you found this…”
“Look beneath the Westwood foundation.”
Adrian stared.
“What?”
Natalie looked confused.
“The foundation?”
Madison nodded.
“Claire believed the evidence was hidden there.”
Suddenly…
The lights went out.
The mansion became completely dark.
Everyone froze.
Then came the sound.
Footsteps.
Someone walking upstairs.
Slowly.
Calmly.
Adrian grabbed his phone.
“Security?”
No answer.
The cameras were offline.
Then a voice came from the hallway.
“You should have left the past buried.”
Everyone turned.
A man stood in the doorway.
Older.
Elegant.
Familiar.
Adrian’s blood ran cold.
Because he recognized him.
