Chapter 6 - THE FILE CLAIRE NEVER WANTED FOUND

Adrian stared at the sentence written in Claire’s handwriting.
“MY HUSBAND IS BEING LIED TO BY HIS OWN FAMILY.”
The words felt heavier than anything he had ever carried.
For three years, Adrian believed he lost Claire because of a tragic accident.
For three years, he blamed himself.
He blamed the storm.
The road.
The timing.
But he never imagined the people standing beside him were the ones hiding the truth.
He opened the folder.
Inside were bank records.
Photographs.
Emails.
Private documents.
Everything was organized perfectly.
Because Claire was not someone who acted without proof.
She collected evidence.
She prepared.
She knew something was coming.
Natalie looked through the pages.
Her face became pale.
“Adrian…”
He looked at her.
“What?”
She held up a document.
“This is a transfer from Westwood Holdings.”
Adrian took it.
His eyes moved across the numbers.
Millions of dollars had been moved into a private account.
The account owner shocked him.
Madison Cole.
But the transaction date was worse.
It happened two days before Claire died.
Adrian felt his stomach tighten.
“No.”
Natalie looked at him.
“You still want to believe she had nothing to do with this?”
Adrian said nothing.
Because part of him still wanted to defend Madison.
The woman who held him while he cried.
The woman who stayed beside him after Claire’s funeral.
But another part of him remembered Claire’s last words.
There’s something I need to tell you about Madison.
The office door suddenly opened.
Everyone turned.
Caleb Westwood stood there.
Adrian’s younger brother.
Calm.
Confident.
Almost too calm.
“What are you doing?” Caleb asked.
Adrian stared at him.
“You tell me.”
Caleb looked at the documents.
Then at the folder.
And for the first time…
His confidence disappeared.
“You opened it.”
Not a question.
A statement.
Adrian noticed.
“You knew about this folder.”
Caleb remained silent.
“Answer me.”
Caleb sighed.
“You don’t understand what you’re looking at.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“Then explain it.”
Caleb looked toward Madison.
And Adrian noticed something terrifying.
They were communicating without speaking.
May you like
They had done this before.
Many times.
