Chapter 12 - THE WOMAN WHO TRIED TO SAVE HERSELF

Adrian stepped back.
He looked at his mother like he had never seen her before.
“You let me believe Claire died by accident.”
Margaret cried.
“I was afraid.”
“Of what?”
She looked toward Madison.
“Of losing everything.”
Adrian’s eyes narrowed.
“Everything?”
Margaret shook her head.
“You don’t understand how dangerous this was.”
Natalie interrupted.
“No.”
Everyone looked at her.
“You were not protecting the family.”
She pointed at Margaret.
“You were protecting the Westwood name.”
Margaret looked hurt.
But she didn’t deny it.
Adrian turned toward Madison.
“Now you.”
Madison remained silent.
“Tell me the truth.”
She looked at him.
“I loved you.”
Adrian’s expression didn’t change.
“That’s not an answer.”
Madison’s eyes filled with tears.
“I never wanted Claire dead.”
“But she died.”
Madison looked away.
“I made mistakes.”
“What mistakes?”
She hesitated.
Then said:
“I took money.”
The room went silent.
“How much?”
Madison whispered:
“Enough.”
Adrian stepped closer.
“You destroyed my company?”
“No.”
She shook her head.
“I was trying to fix something.”
Natalie laughed bitterly.
“By stealing?”
Madison looked at her.
“You don’t know what happened.”
Adrian’s voice became quiet.
“Then tell me.”
Madison looked at the floor.
“Claire found out about my past.”
“What past?”
Madison looked up.
May you like
And said something nobody expected.
“I wasn’t supposed to be Madison Cole.”
