Chapter 15 - THE MAN WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DEAD

Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
Adrian stared at the man standing in the doorway.
Because he knew that face.
He had seen it thousands of times.
In photographs.
In memories.
In his childhood.
His father.
Richard Westwood.
The man who supposedly died ten years ago.
Adrian’s voice barely worked.
“You’re dead.”
Richard smiled.
“That is what everyone was supposed to believe.”
Margaret collapsed into a chair.
“You promised you would never come back.”
Adrian turned toward his mother.
“You knew?”
She started crying.
“Yes.”
The betrayal became too much.
His own mother.
His brother.
His fiancée.
Everyone had been hiding something.
Richard walked into the room.
“You have no idea what Claire discovered.”
Adrian stepped forward.
“You killed her.”
Richard smiled slightly.
“No.”
He looked at Madison.
“But I know who helped.”
Everyone turned.
Madison froze.
“What?”
Richard continued.
“Madison came here for revenge.”
“She wanted to expose us.”
He looked at Claire’s files.
“But Claire found the truth first.”
Adrian stared.
“Then why did Claire die?”
Richard looked directly at him.
“Because she was going to tell you everything.”
A painful silence filled the room.
Adrian clenched his fists.
“Who killed my wife?”
Richard smiled.
Then he said:
“You already know.”
Everyone looked around.
The answer was inside the room.
The person closest to Claire.
The person Adrian trusted most.
Then Richard pointed.
Not at Madison.
Not at Caleb.
Not at Margaret.
He pointed at Adrian’s phone.
A new message appeared.
From Claire’s old number.
Adrian picked up the phone with shaking hands.
One sentence appeared on the screen.
“Adrian, if you are reading this…”
“Someone in this room is the reason I died.”
The room froze.
Then another message appeared.
A photo attachment.
Adrian opened it.
And his entire body went numb.
Because the picture showed Claire alive…
After the crash.
And standing beside her in the hospital hallway was the person nobody expected.
The person Adrian trusted more than anyone.
May you like
The person who had been helping him search for the truth.
The person who had been pretending to be his ally from the beginning.
