Chapter 9 - The Man Who Returned From The Dead

Nobody spoke.
Because the impossible was standing in front of them.
Arthur stared at the man.
“You died.”
The man smiled.
“That’s what everyone believed.”
Elara looked confused.
“Dad…”
“Who is he?”
Arthur couldn’t answer.
The man stepped into the vault.
“My name is Marcus Vale.”
Julian’s expression changed.
“Your father’s former partner.”
Victoria whispered:
“The man who disappeared after the accident.”
Marcus smiled.
“Accident?”
He laughed.
“No.”
“It was a murder.”
Arthur stepped forward.
“You’re lying.”
Marcus looked at him.
“You stole everything from me.”
“Your company.”
“My reputation.”
“My family.”
Arthur shook his head.
“I never did that.”
Marcus pulled out a file.
“Then explain this.”
He threw the document onto the table.
Arthur picked it up.
His face changed.
Because the signature looked exactly like his.
Again.
Another contract.
Another betrayal.
Elara looked at her father.
“Dad…”
“I don’t understand.”
Marcus smiled.
“That’s because your father spent years hiding the truth from you.”
Julian stepped closer.
“Why come back now?”
Marcus looked at Elara.
“Because she deserves to know who destroyed her life.”
Elara felt a chill.
“What are you saying?”
Marcus pointed at Julian.
“He didn’t ruin your wedding.”
“He saved you.”
Everyone froze.
Julian looked away.
Because he knew Marcus was about to reveal something dangerous.
Marcus continued.
“The man you married was never your enemy.”
“He was trying to protect you from the person closest to you.”

Then Marcus looked directly at Eleanor.
“And she knows exactly what I mean.”
