Chapter 7 - The Person Behind the Door
The sound of the vault door locking echoed through the underground room.
Everyone froze.
Arthur rushed forward.
“Open this door!”
No answer.
Eleanor grabbed the handle.
“It won’t move.”
Panic spread through the room.
Elara looked around.
“Who locked us in?”
Julian stared at the security panel.
“This wasn’t an accident.”
Victoria stepped back.
“Someone planned this.”
The lights suddenly flickered.
Then a voice came through the speaker.
“You wanted the truth.”
Everyone looked up.
The voice was distorted.
“You wanted to know who betrayed this family.”
Elara’s face turned pale.
“Who are you?”
A quiet laugh answered.
“The person who watched all of you lie for years.”
Arthur clenched his fists.
“Show yourself.”
The voice continued.
“Julian wasn’t the only monster in this story.”
Julian’s expression changed.
“What does that mean?”
“You know exactly what it means.”
A screen on the wall suddenly turned on.
A video appeared.
It showed Elara’s father.
Alive.
Everyone stopped breathing.
“My daughter…”
The recording continued.
“If you are watching this, then I am already gone.”
Elara covered her mouth.
Tears filled her eyes.
Her father continued.
“Do not trust anyone who claims they protected you.”
The video showed another person entering the room.
Only their shadow was visible.
But Elara recognized the voice.
“No…”
She whispered.
“That can’t be.”
Arthur looked at her.
“Who is it?”
Elara stepped back.
Her face filled with disbelief.
“Someone I loved.”
The screen went black.
Then the vault lights returned.
