Chapter 2 - The Secret Behind the Smile
Nobody moved after the video ended.
Arthur looked at his daughter like he was seeing her for the first time.
“Elara…”
“Tell me that video was fake.”
She opened her mouth.
But no words came out.
Julian walked closer.
“Go ahead.”
“Tell them.”
“Tell them why you married me.”
Elara’s hands started shaking.
“I had a reason.”
Arthur’s expression changed.
“A reason?”
“You destroyed your own wedding for a reason?”
Eleanor stepped forward.
“Explain everything.”
Elara closed her eyes.
Six months earlier…
She had discovered something about Julian.
Something nobody else knew.
“He was hiding money.”
Julian laughed.
“That’s your excuse?”
“You married me because you thought I was a criminal?”
Elara shook her head.
“No.”
“I married you because I thought you killed my father.”
The room went silent.
Arthur froze.
“What did you say?”
Julian’s smile disappeared.
Elara looked at him with hatred.
“My father trusted you.”
“You were his business partner.”
“You were the last person who saw him alive.”
Julian clenched his jaw.
“That was years ago.”
“And you never told me the truth.”
Elara’s tears fell.
“Because you destroyed every piece of evidence.”
Julian stepped closer.
“You have no idea what you are talking about.”
“Then why are you afraid?”
That question hit him.
Arthur noticed.
Julian was angry.
But behind that anger…
There was fear.
Suddenly, someone knocked on the door.
Everyone turned.
A woman stood outside.
Holding an old envelope.
“I think it’s time you all knew what happened the night Elara’s father died.”
Eleanor stared at her.
“Who are you?”
The woman looked at Julian.
“My name is Victoria.”
“And I was there.”
Julian’s face went completely pale.
