Chapter 9 - The Girl In The Abandoned Hospital

The abandoned medical facility smelled like dust and old chemicals.

Richard entered with security officers behind him.

Every step echoed.

“Lily!”

No answer.

They searched every room.

Until they reached the basement.

A small light flickered behind a closed door.

Richard opened it.

And stopped.

Lily was sitting inside.

She was scared.

But she was alive.

“Mr. Harrison.”

Richard immediately rushed forward.

“Are you hurt?”

She shook her head.

“No.”

“Who took you?”

Lily looked down.

“Someone wanted my backpack.”

Richard looked at the damaged backpack.

“Why?”

“Because of what’s inside.”

She slowly removed a small metal box hidden inside the lining.

Richard opened it.

Inside was a memory card.

“What is this?”

Lily looked at him.

“Proof.”

“Proof of what?”

She swallowed.

“Proof that Ethan was supposed to die.”

The room went silent.

Richard stared at the card.

Then Lily continued.

“My brother recorded everything.”

“He knew someone was changing his treatment.”

“He tried to tell people.”

“But nobody believed him.”

Richard felt his chest tighten.

“How old was your brother?”

Lily looked away.

“Seven.”

The same age she was now.

Richard closed his eyes.

A child had known the truth.

And adults had ignored him.

Then a noise came from the hallway.

Footsteps.

Security officers turned.

A man appeared.

Richard recognized him instantly.

His brother.

Thomas Harrison.

Richard’s voice became cold.

“You.”

Thomas smiled.

“I was wondering when you would finally understand.”

Richard stepped forward.

“Why?”

Thomas looked at Lily.

“Because children like her always find things adults miss.”

Lily moved behind Richard.

Thomas smiled.

“You have no idea how much damage that little girl has caused.”

Richard stared at him.

“You tried to kill my son.”

Thomas shook his head.

“No.”

“I tried to save my company.”

Richard’s eyes narrowed.

Then Thomas said something that changed everything.

“Ethan was never your only child involved in the experiment.”

May you like

Richard froze.

“What does that mean?”
