Chapter 9 - THE SECRET BEHIND SOFIA’S MOTHER

Police sirens could be heard outside the building.
Someone had called authorities.
Nobody knew who.
But nobody wanted Eleanor alone with Sofia anymore.
The ballroom had changed.
The powerful guests who once surrounded Eleanor now kept their distance.
The bride sat down.
Her perfect wedding had become the biggest scandal of the year.
She looked at Sofia.
“I’m sorry.”
Sofia looked confused.
“For what?”
The bride lowered her eyes.
“For not knowing.”
Sofia did not answer.
Because she had spent years waiting for someone to say that.
Clara opened another folder.
“There is still one thing everyone needs to know.”
Eleanor looked up.
“No.”
Clara ignored her.
She removed a document.
“This proves Sofia’s mother was investigating the disappearance of another person.”
The bride looked confused.
“Another person?”
Clara nodded.
“A man who tried to expose Eleanor before.”
The guests looked at Eleanor.
“Who?”
Clara looked at the document.
“Thomas Whitmore.”
A shocked silence filled the room.
Because Thomas Whitmore was Eleanor’s own brother.
“He knew what she was doing.”
Clara continued.
“He tried to stop her.”
Eleanor finally lost control.
“Stop talking.”
Clara looked at her.
“Why?”
“Because you don’t know everything.”
Clara smiled.
“No.”
She looked at Sofia.
“But she does.”
Everyone turned.
Sofia looked nervous.
“My mom gave me something.”
Eleanor froze.
“What?”
Sofia reached inside her dress.
She pulled out a small key.
The entire ballroom became silent.
Clara stared.
“Where did you get that?”
Sofia answered.
“My mom told me never to open the box unless I found Eleanor.”
May you like
Eleanor’s face changed.
Because she knew exactly what box Sofia was talking about.
