Chapter 16 - THE LAST LIE OF ELEANOR WHITMORE

The ballroom had become a courtroom.

Nobody was celebrating anymore.

The flowers that once represented love now surrounded a night of betrayal.

The wedding cake remained untouched.

The champagne glasses were still filled.

But every guest was focused on one person.

Eleanor Whitmore.

Daniel placed the folder on the table.

“This contains every document she tried to erase.”

The police officer opened it carefully.

Inside were copies of financial records.

Hidden agreements.

Private messages.

And a recording.

The officer looked at Daniel.

“What is this?”

Daniel answered quietly.

“The night Eleanor destroyed my life.”

Eleanor immediately stepped forward.

“You are believing a man who disappeared for fifteen years?”

Daniel looked at her.

“I disappeared because you threatened everyone I loved.”

The room became silent.

Sofia held her father’s hand tighter.

“Is that true?”

Daniel looked at her.

“I wanted to come back.”

A pause.

“Every day.”

Sofia’s eyes filled with tears.

“Then why didn’t you?”

Daniel looked at Eleanor.

“Because she made sure I couldn’t.”

Eleanor laughed coldly.

“You expect them to believe this?”

Daniel pressed a button.

A recording played.

Eleanor’s own voice filled the room.

“You will leave this city.”

A younger Eleanor.

Fifteen years ago.

“You will never contact your daughter again.”

The guests froze.

Sofia covered her mouth.

Daniel closed his eyes.

He had waited years for this moment.

The recording continued.

“If you refuse…”

A pause.

“I will make sure nobody believes you.”

The recording stopped.

Nobody looked at Eleanor the same way anymore.

The bride slowly stepped away.

“You threatened him.”

Eleanor’s face remained emotionless.

“I protected the family.”

The bride shook her head.

“No.”

She looked at Sofia.

“You destroyed one.”

May you like

For the first time in decades…

Eleanor Whitmore had no answer.
