Chapter 17 - THE BRIDE WHO WALKED AWAY

The bride removed her wedding veil.

Slowly.

Carefully.

As if she was removing the final piece of a life she no longer recognized.

The guests watched.

Nobody interrupted.

She looked at Eleanor.

“I spent my entire life believing you were the person who protected this family.”

Eleanor said nothing.

“I defended you.”

A pause.

“I trusted you.”

The bride looked toward Sofia.

“And I ignored the signs.”

Sofia lowered her eyes.

“You didn’t know.”

The bride looked surprised.

The little girl who had entered the gala as a stranger was comforting her.

That hurt more.

The bride turned back to Eleanor.

“You knew everything.”

Eleanor’s expression hardened.

“You are emotional.”

“No.”

The bride shook her head.

“I am finally seeing clearly.”

The room became quiet.

Daniel looked at Sofia.

“Your mother wanted this moment.”

Sofia looked up.

“She did?”

Daniel nodded.

“She believed the truth would eventually find you.”

Sofia touched the old photograph.

“The photo?”

Daniel smiled sadly.

“She kept it because she knew memories could survive when people tried to erase them.”

Suddenly, one of the guests stepped forward.

An older businessman.

“I remember this.”

Everyone turned.

He looked at Eleanor.

“Fifteen years ago, you told us Daniel stole company money.”

Daniel looked shocked.

The man continued.

“But I never saw proof.”

Another guest spoke.

“Neither did I.”

A third guest nodded.

“She convinced everyone.”

The room slowly changed.

One by one…

People began remembering.

The lies.

The manipulation.

The missing evidence.

Eleanor looked around.

The same people who once admired her were now questioning her.

She whispered:

“You are all making a mistake.”

Clara answered.

“No.”

May you like

She looked at Sofia.

“We are correcting one.”
