Chapter 6 - THE WOMAN WHO CAME BACK FROM THE PAST

The entire ballroom turned toward the entrance.
Nobody moved.
Nobody spoke.
The stranger standing there looked nothing like the guests expected.
She was not a reporter.
She was not a random outsider.
She was a woman Eleanor had spent years trying to erase.
Her name was Clara Bennett.
And the moment Eleanor saw her, every bit of confidence disappeared.
The bride noticed.
“Sofia…”
She looked at the little girl.
“Who is she?”
Sofia shook her head slowly.
“I don’t know.”
Clara walked into the ballroom.
Her eyes never left Eleanor.
“You told everyone I was gone.”
Eleanor’s jaw tightened.
“You shouldn’t be here.”
A nervous laugh moved through the guests.
Because those words sounded less like a warning.
And more like fear.
Clara stopped in the middle of the room.
“I was supposed to disappear fifteen years ago.”
She reached into her coat.
She pulled out an old envelope.
The same kind of envelope Sofia had been carrying.
“I kept every document.”
Eleanor stared at it.
“Give me that.”
Clara smiled bitterly.
“You still think you can order everyone around.”
The screen behind the bride suddenly changed.
A new file appeared.
A date.
A location.
A signature.
The guests leaned closer.
The bride whispered.
“What is this?”
Clara answered.
“The night Eleanor Whitmore destroyed two families.”
The ballroom erupted.
Eleanor immediately stepped forward.
“This is a performance.”
But nobody believed her anymore.
Because powerful people could lie.
But they could not hide fear.
Sofia watched Clara carefully.
“Did you know my mom?”
Clara looked at her.
Her expression softened.
“Yes.”
Sofia took a small step forward.
“Did she know the truth?”
Clara nodded.
“She was the only person brave enough to fight.”
Eleanor’s voice became sharp.
“Enough.”
Clara looked at her.
“No.”
She pointed toward the screen.
“Tonight, everyone learns what you buried.”
The screen began playing another video.

And this time…
It showed Eleanor herself.
