Chapter 10 - THE BOX THAT COULD DESTROY EVERYTHING

The key rested in Sofia’s small hand.

But everyone in the room looked at it like it was a weapon.

Eleanor slowly stepped forward.

“Sofia.”

Her voice changed.

For the first time, she sounded almost gentle.

“Give me the key.”

Sofia immediately stepped back.

“No.”

The guests noticed.

Eleanor’s kindness disappeared.

Clara moved in front of Sofia.

“Stay away from her.”

Eleanor stared at Clara.

“You have no idea what you are protecting.”

Clara answered.

“I know exactly.”

A police officer entered the ballroom.

“Everyone needs to remain calm.”

But nobody was calm.

Not anymore.

The bride looked at Eleanor.

“What is inside that box?”

Eleanor did not answer.

And that was the answer.

The guests began demanding explanations.

“What is she hiding?”

“What happened fifteen years ago?”

“Who is Sofia’s father?”

The last question changed everything.

Sofia looked down.

She had never heard that question asked.

Clara noticed.

“Sofia…”

The girl looked up.

“Your mother wanted you to know the truth.”

Eleanor suddenly interrupted.

“She doesn’t deserve to know.”

Everyone froze.

Sofia stared at her.

“Why?”

Eleanor said nothing.

But her expression revealed something.

Something bigger than anyone expected.

The police officer looked at Clara.

“What is in the box?”

Clara answered.

“The reason Eleanor spent fifteen years destroying anyone who got close to the truth.”

A detective opened the old envelope attached to the key.

Inside was a single message.

Written by Sofia’s mother.

Everyone watched as Clara read it aloud.

“If you found this box…”

She paused.

“Then Eleanor has already lied to you.”

Sofia’s eyes filled with tears.

The message continued.

“Inside this box is the proof of who Sofia really is.”

The entire ballroom stopped breathing.

Eleanor turned pale.

May you like

Because she knew the truth was about to come out.

And it would destroy everything she had built.
