The news spread before sunrise.
The Whitmore wedding scandal became the biggest story in the country.
But inside the mansion…

She sat quietly beside Daniel.

She was not waiting for someone to leave.
Daniel looked at her.
“I’m sorry I missed so much.”
Sofia looked down.
“I used to imagine what you looked like.”
Daniel smiled sadly.
“And now?”
She looked at him.
“Now I know.”
The answer broke him.
He hugged her carefully.
Across the room, Eleanor watched.
Not with anger.
Not with power.
With defeat.
The police officer approached her.
“Eleanor Whitmore.”
Everyone became silent.
“You are being investigated for fraud, intimidation, document tampering, and attempted custody manipulation.”
Eleanor looked around.
Nobody defended her.
Not one person.

Before leaving, Eleanor looked at Sofia.
“You think this makes you happy?”
Sofia looked at her.
“No.”
Eleanor seemed surprised.
Sofia continued.
“I think my mom wanted the truth.”
A pause.
“And now everyone knows it.”
Eleanor looked away.
Because that was the one thing she could never control.
The truth.
The bride walked beside Sofia.
“I’m sorry your life started with so much pain.”
Sofia smiled slightly.
“My mom said good people always find each other.”
The bride looked at Daniel.
Then Clara.
Then Sofia.
And she finally understood.
