Chapter 7 - THE RECORDING THAT CHANGED EVERYTHING

Michael Reevesâ disappearance turned the entire investigation upside down.
For the first time, we realized something terrifying.
The person behind everything wasnât afraid.
They were cleaning up.
Removing evidence.
Protecting themselves.
And they were getting closer.
That night, I couldnât sleep.
Every sound made me jump.
Every shadow outside the hospital window made my heart race.
Daniel noticed.
âYouâre scared.â
I looked at him.
âIâm not scared for me.â
I placed my hand over my stomach.
âIâm scared for her.â
He kissed my forehead.
âI promise you. Nobody is touching our daughter.â
But promises didnât stop people like my family.
Evidence did.
The next morning, Tyler came to the hospital.
The teenager who recorded everything.
He looked exhausted.
âEmilyâŠâ
I smiled softly.
âThank you for telling the truth.â
He looked down.
âI almost deleted it.â
My heart stopped.
âWhat?â
Tyler swallowed.
âYour dad called me after it happened.â
Daniel immediately stood up.
âWhat did he say?â
Tyler looked nervous.
âHe told me I didnât understand what I saw.â
âAnd?â
âHe offered me money.â
Silence.
âHow much?â
âFive thousand dollars.â
I closed my eyes.
My father tried to buy silence.
Tyler pulled out his phone.
âBut I saved something else.â
He opened a video.
A recording.
Not from the backyard.
From earlier that day.
Before the attack.
The video showed Rachel talking to my mother.
Their voices were clear.
Rachel said:
âI canât wait much longer.â
My mother answered:
âAfter today, everything changes.â
Rachel looked toward the house.
âAnd Emily?â
My mother didnât hesitate.
âSheâll finally learn she canât take everything from this family.â
My blood froze.
Then Rachel said something worse.
âWhat if the baby survives?â
My mother looked at her.
âThen we find another way.â
I covered my mouth.
Danielâs face became unreadable.
Because now we had proof.
They knew.
They planned.
And they were willing to try again.
Then Tyler pointed at the screen.
âWait.â
The video continued.
Someone walked into the room.
Someone neither of us expected.
My father.
May you like
And his first words were:
âDid you make sure nobody saw the medication?â
