Chapter 1 - THE MOMENT MY SISTER TRIED TO TAKE MY BABY AWAY

My sister looked me in the eyesâŠ
smiledâŠ
and kicked my six-month pregnant belly.
âThis is what you get for thinking youâre better than family.â
Those were the last words I heard before my body hit the ground.
The backyard disappeared beneath me.
The voices around me became distant.
All I could feel was pain.
A sharp, terrifying pain that ripped through my stomach.
My hands immediately covered my baby.
âPleaseâŠâ
The word barely escaped my mouth.
âPlease move, baby girl.â
I waited.
One second.
Two seconds.
Ten seconds.
Nothing.
No tiny kick.
No gentle movement.
No sign that the little life growing inside me was okay.
And that silence was more terrifying than the pain.
âEmily!â
Someone screamed my name.
But nobody moved fast enough.
Nobody except my husband.
âCall 911!â
Danielâs voice cut through the chaos as he pushed through the crowd.
He dropped beside me, his face turning pale when he saw me holding my stomach.
âLook at me, sweetheart. Stay awake.â
âI canât feel her,â I whispered.
His expression changed.
âWhat?â
âI canât feel the baby.â
That sentence destroyed him.
For a moment, the confident man who always knew what to do looked completely terrified.
Then he grabbed my hand.
âSheâs going to be okay. You hear me? Our daughter is going to be okay.â
But behind him, my sister Rachel started crying.
Not because she was sorry.
Not because she was scared for me.
She was crying because she realized someone had witnessed everything.
Our seventeen-year-old cousin Tyler stood near the fence, holding his phone.
His face was white.
Rachel noticed him.
The panic in her eyes was immediate.
âTylerâŠâ
Nobody answered.
âTyler, you didnât record that, did you?â
The entire backyard went silent.
Daniel slowly turned his head.
âWhat did you just say?â
Rachel stepped backward.
âI mean⊠he misunderstood what happened.â
Tyler looked at me.
Then he looked at Daniel.
âShe pushed her first,â Rachel said quickly.
âNo, she didnât,â Tyler whispered.
Rachelâs face hardened.
âExcuse me?â
Tyler swallowed.
âI recorded it.â
My mother gasped.
My father cursed under his breath.
And Rachelâs entire expression changed.
The sweet, innocent sister everyone knew disappeared.
âYou need to delete that.â
Tyler shook his head.
âNo.â
My father stepped forward.
âSon, give me the phone.â
Daniel stood up.
Slowly.
Calmly.
âNobody touches that phone.â
My father stared at him.
âThis is a family matter.â
Daniel looked at him.
âNo. The second she kicked my pregnant wife, it stopped being a family matter.â
The ambulance sirens grew louder in the distance.
But nobody noticed the way my mother quietly walked toward the house.
Nobody noticed what she was carrying.
Nobody noticed until Daniel did.
Because before the paramedics arrived, he saw my mother holding the one thing Rachel was desperate to hide.
The inheritance papers.
The documents that belonged to my unborn daughter.
And that was when Daniel realized something terrifying.
This wasnât an accident.
My sister didnât lose control.
She had a reason.
May you like
A reason that involved my baby.
And a family secret buried for years.
