Chapter 14 - THE FINAL CONFRONTATION

The old estate looked exactly the same.

But everything felt different.

Because now I knew what was hiding behind the walls.

Secrets.

Lies.

Betrayal.

Margaret stood in the library.

Waiting.

“You came.”

I looked at her.

“You wanted me here.”

She smiled.

“You look like your grandfather.”

“I’m nothing like you.”

Her smile faded.

“You have no idea.”

Daniel stood beside me.

Margaret looked at him.

“You always were the problem.”

Daniel frowned.

“I was the person who helped her see the truth.”

“No.”

Margaret shook her head.

“You made her believe she mattered.”

I felt anger.

“She does matter.”

Margaret looked at me.

“You don’t understand.”

“No.”

I stepped forward.

“I understand perfectly.”

“You were hurt.”

She looked surprised.

“You were abandoned.”

Her expression changed.

“But instead of healing
”

I pointed toward her.

“You destroyed everyone else.”

For the first time, Margaret looked old.

Tired.

Broken.

But not innocent.

“You think you’re better than me.”

“No.”

I shook my head.

“I think I’m better than the person you wanted me to become.”

Suddenly, police entered.

Margaret looked shocked.

Detective Harris stepped forward.

“It’s over.”

She looked at me.

“You betrayed me.”

I stared at her.

“No.”

My voice was calm.

“You betrayed yourself.”

As officers placed handcuffs on her, she whispered:

“You’ll regret this.”

I looked at my stomach.

At my daughter.

“No.”

May you like

I smiled sadly.

“I won’t.”
