Chapter 9 - FAMILY MONEY, FAMILY LIES

Dominic stared at Michael.
The room felt smaller.
“You.”
Michael looked away.
“I didn’t want it this way.”
Dominic almost laughed.
“People always say that after they choose the worst possible way.”
Michael’s jaw tightened.
“You don’t understand.”
“No.”
Dominic stepped closer.
“I understand perfectly.”
Michael looked at Ellie.
“She changed everything.”
Clare moved protectively.
Dominic noticed.
“Don’t.”
Michael looked confused.
“What?”
“Don’t pretend this is about business.”
Silence.
Because Dominic was right.
Michael wasn’t looking at the company.
He was looking at the child.
“You were scared she would expose you.”
Michael said nothing.
That was enough.
Vincent moved.
The guards surrounded Michael.
But Arthur raised his hand.
“Careful.”
Everyone stopped.
Arthur smiled.
“Michael isn’t the only person who wants Dominic gone.”
Dominic looked at him.
“Who else?”
Arthur didn’t answer.
Instead, he looked at Mercer.
The doctor’s face changed.
Dominic noticed immediately.
“Samuel?”
Mercer stepped backward.
“I’m sorry.”
Dominic froze.
“What did you do?”
Mercer looked at Ellie.
Then at Clare.
“I didn’t know.”
“Know what?”
Mercer whispered:
“The accident.”
Silence.
Dominic stared.
“What about it?”
Mercer closed his eyes.
“The crash wasn’t random.”
Everything stopped.
Dominic felt the room disappear.
“What did you say?”
Mercer looked broken.
“Someone planned it.”
Vincent’s hand tightened.
“Who?”
Mercer looked toward Arthur.
Arthur smiled.
Dominic understood.
The brace.
The medication.
The board vote.
It was all connected.
But the biggest attack happened before any of it.
The accident.
The thing that started everything.
Dominic stepped closer.
“Who was driving the other car?”
Mercer swallowed.
“You never asked.”
Dominic’s face hardened.
“Why?”
“Because the police report said the driver disappeared.”
Vincent looked shocked.
“Disappeared?”
Mercer nodded.
“And someone paid to make sure nobody found him.”
Dominic stared at Arthur.
For the first time...
Arthur looked nervous.
Only slightly.
But enough.
“Where is he?”
Mercer answered:
“He’s alive.”
May you like
Dominic’s voice dropped.
“Where?”
