Chapter 12 - THE NIGHT EVERYTHING CHANGED

The truth came out piece by piece.

Like a locked door slowly opening.

David Cross had not been trying to kill Dominic.

He had been trying to warn him.

Years earlier, Arthur Voss had secretly created a second company.

A hidden company.

One that moved money away from Dominic’s businesses.

When David discovered it, Arthur panicked.

The crash was supposed to silence him.

But Dominic survived.

And that created a new problem.

Arthur needed another plan.

So he attacked Dominic slowly.

The medication.

The brace.

The rumors.

The board.

Everything.

“You planned all of this.”

Dominic looked at Arthur.

Arthur didn’t deny it anymore.

“I planned for reality.”

Dominic shook his head.

“No.”

He looked at him.

“You planned for my weakness.”

Arthur smiled.

“And it worked.”

That sentence made Vincent move.

But Dominic stopped him.

“No.”

Everyone looked at him.

Dominic walked closer.

“I want him to talk.”

Arthur laughed.

“You think you’re still in control?”

Dominic looked around.

At the guards.

At the cameras.

At the people who had followed him for years.

Then he looked at Ellie.

The smallest person in the room.

The one person who saw the truth first.

“Yes.”

Arthur frowned.

“Why?”

Dominic answered:

“Because you made one mistake.”

“What?”

“You thought power came from fear.”

A pause.

“It doesn’t.”

Arthur stared.

Dominic continued.

“It comes from people who still choose to stand beside you.”

For the first time...

Arthur had no answer.

Then Michael spoke.

“I’m sorry.”

Everyone turned.

Dominic looked at his nephew.

Michael lowered his head.

“I thought I could fix everything.”

Dominic’s expression hardened.

“You helped destroy it.”

“I know.”

Michael looked ashamed.

“I was angry.”

“Why?”

“Because everyone saw you as perfect.”

Dominic said nothing.

Michael continued.

“I thought I would never matter.”

That was the truth.

Not an excuse.

A reason.

Dominic understood the difference.

Before he could respond...

The lights went out.

Complete darkness.

A sound echoed.

A door opening.

Then a voice whispered:

“Dominic.”

Everyone froze.

May you like

Because the voice belonged to someone who should not have been there.

David Cross.
