Chapter 10 - THE MAN WHO SURVIVED THE CRASH

The answer came slowly.

Like Mercer was afraid saying it would change everything.

“He’s in Chicago.”

Dominic stepped closer.

“Name.”

Mercer looked at Arthur.

Then said:

“David Cross.”

Vincent immediately searched the name.

Seconds later, his face changed.

“Boss.”

“What?”

“David Cross worked for Vale Construction eight years ago.”

Dominic frowned.

“What?”

“He was a driver.”

The room went silent.

Arthur looked away.

That was the first real mistake he made.

Dominic saw it.

“You knew him.”

Arthur said nothing.

Dominic moved closer.

“You knew the man who crashed into me.”

Arthur finally spoke.

“You don’t understand the bigger picture.”

Dominic laughed once.

A cold sound.

“Everyone who betrays someone says that.”

Arthur’s face hardened.

“You built an empire on secrets.”

“And you built yours on betrayal.”

The argument ended when Vincent’s phone rang.

He answered.

Then his expression changed.

“What happened?”

Vincent looked at Dominic.

“We found David Cross.”

“Where?”

“He’s at a hospital.”

“Alive?”

“Yes.”

A pause.

“But there’s a problem.”

Dominic looked at him.

“What?”

Vincent lowered his voice.

“He’s been unconscious for eleven weeks.”

Nobody spoke.

Then another message arrived.

Vincent read it.

His face became pale.

“What?”

Dominic demanded.

Vincent looked up.

“Someone visited him tonight.”

“Who?”

Vincent turned the phone around.

A security photo appeared.

A woman entering the hospital room.

Dominic stared.

Because he knew her.

Everyone did.

She was the one person nobody had suspected.

Clare whispered:

“No…”

Dominic looked at the picture.

And his entire world shifted.

May you like

The woman standing beside David Cross’s hospital bed was...

Clare Rowan.
