Chapter 8 - THE TRUTH SARAH NEVER TOLD HIM

The attacker moved quickly.
Too quickly.
They knew the house.
They knew the security gaps.
They knew exactly where Lilyâs room was.
That scared Adrian more than the weapon in the intruderâs hand.
Because strangers attack.
But insiders betray.
Adrian reached the hallway seconds before the attacker opened Lilyâs bedroom door.
âStop.â
The man froze.
Slowly turned.
Adrian stood behind him.
Cold.
Silent.
Dangerous.
âYou picked the wrong house.â
The man smiled.
âNo.â
He looked toward Lilyâs room.
âI picked the right daughter.â
Adrianâs expression changed.
The attacker continued.
âYou really thought you could disappear for eight years and everything would stay buried?â
âWho sent you?â
The man laughed.
âYou still donât understand.â
He looked at Adrian.
âYour daughter isnât the secret.â
A pause.
âYou are.â
Before Adrian could respond, Vincentâs team arrived.
The attacker was captured.
But before anyone could question him, he swallowed something hidden in his mouth.
Poison.
He collapsed.
Dead.
Adrian stared at the body.
Someone had trained him.
Someone had prepared him.
This wasn't a normal attack.
This was a message.
Later that night, Sarah finally broke.
âI should have told you.â
Adrian sat across from her.
âYes.â
She nodded.
âI was pregnant when I found out.â
Adrian froze.
âFound out what?â
Sarah looked down.
âThat your enemies weren't the only people watching you.â
A pause.
âThere was someone inside your organization.â
Vincent immediately looked up.
âImpossible.â
Sarah shook her head.
âNo.â
Her voice trembled.
âNot impossible.â
She looked at Adrian.
âSomeone who knew everything.â
Adrianâs mind raced.
Someone knew about Lily.
Someone knew about Sarah.
Someone knew his weaknesses.
âWho?â
Sarah closed her eyes.
âI never saw his face.â
Adrian became still.
âWhat did he call himself?â
Sarah whispered:
âThe Ghost.â
The room went silent.
Because Adrian knew that name.
Everyone in his world knew that name.
A man who erased evidence.
A man who controlled information.
A man nobody could find.
Vincent looked at Adrian.
âBossâŠâ
Adrian stood.
âThe Ghost has been watching my family for eight years.â
Sarah nodded.
âAnd now he knows you came back.â
That night, Adrian checked on Lily.
She was asleep.
Holding Mr. Buttons.
For a moment, he forgot everything.
The enemies.
The threats.
The past.
Then Lily opened her eyes.
âDad?â
Adrian froze.
The word.
The first time.
She had never called him that before.
âYeah?â
She looked sleepy.
âAre you staying until morning?â
Adrian sat beside her.
âYes.â
She smiled.
âGood.â
She closed her eyes again.
Adrian stayed there.
Watching her sleep.
But outside the house...
A camera captured the moment.
And the person watching whispered:
May you like
âFinally.â
âHe became exactly what we wanted.â
