Chapter 6 - THE MAN WHO WASN’T SUPPOSED TO EXIST

The man tied to the chair laughed.

Adrian stood across from him.

“You came after my daughter.”

The man smiled.

“You still call her yours?”

Adrian’s expression didn’t change.

But everyone in the room felt the temperature drop.

“Who sent you?”

The man laughed again.

“You think Volkov is your biggest problem?”

Adrian stepped closer.

“Answer me.”

The man leaned forward.

“You disappeared for eight years.”

A pause.

“But someone else didn’t.”

Adrian froze.

“What does that mean?”

The man smiled.

“There are people who wanted your daughter gone before she was even born.”

Vincent looked at Adrian.

A warning flashed in his eyes.

The man continued.

“You thought Sarah was protecting Lily from you?”

He laughed.

“She was protecting Lily from the truth.”

Adrian felt something cold settle in his stomach.

“What truth?”

The man looked directly at him.

“Your daughter was never your only secret.”

Silence.

Then Adrian’s phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

A distorted voice spoke.

“Adrian Moretti.”

His grip tightened.

“Who is this?”

A quiet laugh.

“You finally decided to be a father.”

Adrian said nothing.

The voice continued.

“Too bad you waited too long.”

His eyes narrowed.

“What do you want?”

The answer came immediately.

“I want you to know something.”

A pause.

“Your daughter’s life was never hidden from your enemies.”

Adrian’s heart stopped for a second.

“Then why?”

The voice whispered:

“Because someone close to you has been hiding her from you.”

The call ended.

Adrian slowly lowered the phone.

Everyone watched him.

Vincent spoke first.

“Boss?”

Adrian looked toward Sarah.

Then toward the hallway where Lily was sleeping.

And for the first time, he wondered if the person who knew the most about his daughter...

May you like

Was the person he trusted the least.
