Chapter 3 - THE ENEMY WHO FOUND HIS WEAKNESS

Dimitri Volkov smiled when he received the photograph.

Adrian Moretti.

Standing outside Sarah Bennett’s house.

With a little girl beside him.

The most dangerous man in the city.

Finally vulnerable.

“Interesting,” Volkov said.

His men stood silently around him.

“Everyone thought Moretti had no heart.”

He looked at the picture again.

“They were wrong.”

A man beside him asked:

“What do we do?”

Volkov smiled.

“Nothing.”

The man looked confused.

“Nothing?”

“Not yet.”

Volkov placed the photo on the table.

“A man like Adrian Moretti cannot be destroyed by bullets.”

He tapped the picture.

“You destroy him by making him choose.”

Inside the house, Adrian sat across from Lily.

It felt strange.

Almost impossible.

He had spent years knowing everything about her.

Yet he knew nothing.

“What’s your favorite food?”

Lily looked suspicious.

“Why?”

“Because I want to know.”

She thought for a moment.

“Mac and cheese.”

Adrian nodded seriously.

“Good choice.”

“You like it?”

“I’ve never had it.”

Her eyes widened.

“Never?”

“No.”

“You’re weird.”

For the first time in years, Adrian smiled.

A real smile.

“You’re probably right.”

Sarah watched from the kitchen.

And for a moment, she saw the man Adrian could have been.

Not the businessman.

Not the feared figure.

Just a father.

Then her phone buzzed.

She looked down.

Her face changed.

Adrian noticed immediately.

“What happened?”

Sarah quickly locked the screen.

“Nothing.”

Adrian stood.

“Sarah.”

She hesitated.

Then handed him the phone.

A picture.

Taken from outside.

Of Adrian entering the house.

Lily beside him.

His expression became cold.

“How long ago?”

“Five minutes.”

Adrian immediately moved.

“Everyone leaves.”

Sarah looked shocked.

“What?”

“Now.”

Lily looked up.

“What’s wrong?”

Adrian stopped.

The old Adrian would have shouted orders.

The new Adrian knelt beside her.

“Nothing’s wrong.”

“You’re lying.”

The words surprised him.

Because she was right.

Adrian looked at his daughter.

“I need you to trust me.”

She stared.

“I don’t know you.”

The answer hurt.

But he accepted it.

“I know.”

Then his phone rang.

Vincent.

Adrian answered.

The voice on the other side was urgent.

“Boss.”

“What?”

“We found who took the picture.”

A pause.

“Who?”

May you like

Vincent’s answer made Adrian’s blood run cold.

“Someone from Sarah’s past.”
