Chapter 4 - THE SECRET SARAH HID FOR EIGHT YEARS

Adrian had expected enemies.

He had expected Volkov.

He had expected threats.

He never expected Sarah.

Not until she said the words.

“I knew this day would come.”

Adrian stared at her.

“What does that mean?”

Sarah looked at Lily.

Then away.

“There’s something you don’t know.”

His expression hardened.

“Tell me.”

Sarah took a breath.

“Lily’s father was never supposed to be found.”

Adrian froze.

“I’m standing right here.”

“I know.”

Her eyes filled with tears.

“But I mean the other reason.”

Adrian felt a cold feeling in his chest.

“What reason?”

Sarah whispered:

“Someone tried to find her before.”

The room became silent.

“Who?”

“I don’t know.”

“Sarah.”

Her voice broke.

“Eight years ago, after Lily was born, I received a letter.”

Adrian stepped closer.

“What letter?”

“A warning.”

She looked at him.

“They knew she was your daughter.”

Adrian’s face changed.

“What did it say?”

Sarah looked down.

“Keep the child away from Adrian Moretti.”

A terrifying silence followed.

“Or she dies.”

Adrian felt his anger rise.

Not explosive.

Controlled.

Dangerous.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because you were already surrounded by enemies.”

“You should have trusted me.”

Sarah looked at him.

“I was afraid of what you would become.”

The words stopped him.

Because he knew exactly what she meant.

She feared he would destroy everything.

She feared he would start a war.

And maybe she was right.

Suddenly, a sound came from outside.

A car door.

Then another.

Adrian immediately turned.

“Get Lily upstairs.”

Sarah froze.

“What?”

“Now.”

His instincts took over.

The house became silent.

Too silent.

Then—

The window shattered.
