Chapter 12 - THE NIGHT ADRIAN MORETTI LOST CONTROL

Adrian moved before anyone else could react.
âLock the house.â
Vincent immediately grabbed his phone.
âAlready doing it.â
âFind Lily.â
But Adrian was already running.
For the first time in years, he wasn't thinking like a leader.
He wasn't calculating.
He wasn't planning.
He was a father.
A terrified father.
The hallway seemed longer than ever.
Every second felt like an hour.
Then he saw her.
Lily.
Standing at the top of the stairs.
Safe.
Confused.
âDad?â
Adrian stopped.
The word still affected him every time.
He crossed the room and grabbed her.
Holding her tightly.
âIâm here.â
Lily hugged him back.
âYouâre shaking.â
Adrian closed his eyes.
Because she was right.
Adrian Moretti didn't shake.
Not when guns were pointed at him.
Not when enemies threatened him.
But his daughter being in danger?
That broke every wall he had built.
They found the intruder ten minutes later.
Not Matteo.
Someone else.
A messenger.
A warning.
The man looked at Adrian and smiled.
âYou know what your problem is?â
Adrian stared.
âYou finally care.â
The words were meant as an insult.
But Adrian understood.
Because the man was right.
Caring had made him vulnerable.
But it had also given him something he had never had.
A reason to fight.
âWhere is Matteo?â
The man laughed.
âYou think this is about him?â
Adrian stepped closer.
âWhat is it about?â
The man smiled.
âYour father.â
Adrian froze.
âMy father is dead.â
âYes.â
A pause.
âBut his secrets arenât.â
The man looked toward Lily.
âYour family has been lying for generations.â
Then he leaned forward.
âAnd Lily is the last piece.â
Later, Adrian stood in the empty office.
On the wall were photographs of his family.
People he lost.
People he trusted.
People who betrayed him.
Vincent entered quietly.
âWe found Matteoâs location.â
Adrian turned.
âWhere?â
Vincent handed him the address.
A remote warehouse outside the city.
Adrian looked at the paper.
For years, he had wanted revenge.
Now he wanted answers.
But before leaving, Lily appeared at the doorway.
âAre you leaving again?â
The question stopped him.
Adrian looked at her.
âNo.â
âPromise?â
He walked toward her.
Kneeled.
And held her hand.
âI spent eight years breaking that promise without saying it.â
A pause.
âI wonât do it again.â
Lily looked at him.
âBring me back something.â
Adrian smiled.
âWhat?â
She handed him a piece of paper.
A drawing.
A family.
A house.
Her.
Sarah.
And Adrian.
But this time...
The father had a face.
Adrian looked at the drawing.
Then at his daughter.
And realized something.
For the first time in his life...
Someone had given him a reason to come home.
Outside the city, in a dark warehouse, Matteo Moretti watched the security cameras.
He saw Adrian leave.
He saw Lilyâs drawing.
And he smiled.
âGood.â
His men looked at him.
âWhat happens now?â
Matteo looked at the screen.
âAt lastâŠâ
May you like
âHeâs ready to lose everything.â
