CHAPTER 7 — The Marriage That Was a Trap

CHAPTER 7 — The Marriage That Was a Trap

I spent the entire night reading every document.

Every message.

Every transaction.

Every hidden agreement.

And with every page, I felt something inside me break.

Not because Grant betrayed me.

I had already accepted that.

What hurt was realizing how long he had been pretending.

The man who kissed me goodbye every morning…

The man who held Lily’s hand when she learned to walk…

The man who promised to protect us…

had been quietly building a life where we no longer existed.

The final document was the worst.

A divorce agreement.

Prepared six months earlier.

Grant had already planned to leave me.

But there was something strange.

He didn’t want a divorce.

He wanted control.

The document contained a clause that would allow him to claim a large portion of my family’s assets if he could prove I was emotionally unstable and unfit to manage them.

I stared at the words.

Emotionally unstable.

Unfit.

The same story Vanessa had been telling everyone.

The same story they were trying to create.

They wanted the world to believe I was a dangerous woman who abandoned her child.

Then they would take everything.

My company.

My home.

My daughter.

I closed the folder.

And for the first time in weeks…

I smiled.

May you like

Because they had made one mistake.

They underestimated the woman they were trying to destroy.
