CHAPTER 3 — The Woman Who Thought She Owned Everything

CHAPTER 3 — The Woman Who Thought She Owned Everything

That afternoon, my lawyer arrived.

Grant looked surprised.

“You called a lawyer?”

“Yes.”

“Already?”

I looked around my house.

“My daughter was abused while I was gone.”

My voice dropped.

“I should have called one sooner.”

The lawyer placed a folder on the table.

Inside were documents.

Property records.

Trust agreements.

Corporate ownership papers.

Grant’s expression changed.

“What is this?”

I smiled.

“The truth.”

He opened the file.

And slowly, his confidence disappeared.

Because he remembered something.

Something he had forgotten.

Before I married him, I was already wealthy.

My family owned Carlisle Holdings.

The company he built his entire career around.

The house.

The cars.

The lifestyle.

Everything he thought he earned.

Was built on my family’s foundation.

I had hidden my identity because I wanted someone to love me.

Not my money.

Not my name.

Just me.

And Grant had proven exactly why I had been afraid.

Vanessa walked into the room.

“What’s going on?”

She stopped when she saw the papers.

I watched her face change.

For the first time…

she looked afraid.

“What is this?”

I looked at her.

“This is the part where you learn something important.”

She swallowed.

“What?”

I stepped closer.

“You were never taking my place.”

May you like

A pause.

“You were living in mine.”
