CHAPTER 15 — The End of Their Lies

CHAPTER 15 — The End of Their Lies

Six months later…

The trial was everywhere.

Vanessa was convicted for child abuse and fraud.

Adrian Cross faced charges for financial crimes, conspiracy, and attempted exploitation of Lily’s inheritance.

Grant…

received the harshest punishment.

Not prison.

Not money.

Something worse.

He lost the only thing he truly wanted.

A family.

The court gave him limited visitation rights.

But Lily never asked about him.

Not once.

Because children remember who protected them.

And who didn’t.

One year later, I stood in the garden behind our new home.

Not the mansion.

Not the place filled with painful memories.

A new home.

A fresh beginning.

Lily ran across the grass wearing her little yellow dress.

The same color she wanted to wear the day I came home.

But this time…

she was smiling.

“Mommy!”

I turned.

“Yes, baby?”

She ran into my arms.

“I made something.”

She handed me a drawing.

It was a picture of the two of us.

Holding hands.

Above us was a bright sun.

I smiled.

“Who is this?”

She pointed.

“That’s you.”

“And who am I?”

She smiled.

“The mommy who came back.”

My eyes filled with tears.

Because that was the truth.

I didn’t save my company.

I didn’t save my reputation.

I didn’t save my marriage.

May you like

I saved the one thing that mattered.

My daughter.
