CHAPTER 13 — The Truth About Lily

CHAPTER 13 — The Truth About Lily

I stared at the report.

Again.

And again.

My hands went numb.

Daniel looked at me.

“Evelyn…”

I couldn’t speak.

Because the truth was impossible.

Lily was not just my daughter.

She was the last heir to my father’s private foundation.

Years ago, before he died, my father created a protected trust.

A trust that could not be controlled by anyone.

Not Grant.

Not Adrian.

Not even me.

Only one person could inherit it.

The child carrying the Carlisle bloodline.

Lily.

Adrian wasn’t after my company.

He wasn’t after my money.

He was after Lily’s inheritance.

A five-year-old child.

A little girl who still slept with a stuffed rabbit.

A child who thought the world was scary because adults had hurt her.

My anger became something different.

Something deeper.

Something dangerous.

“He wanted my daughter.”

Daniel nodded.

“Yes.”

I closed the folder.

“Then he made the biggest mistake of his life.”

“What mistake?”

May you like

I looked at him.

“He forgot whose mother he was fighting.”
