CHAPTER 10 — Grant’s Final Betrayal

CHAPTER 10 — Grant’s Final Betrayal
I thought Grant had nothing left.
I was wrong.
A week later, he requested a private meeting.
I almost refused.
But Daniel warned me.
“He has something.”
So I agreed.
Grant looked different.
The confidence was gone.
The expensive suit.
The arrogant smile.
Everything disappeared.
“I made a mistake,” he whispered.
I looked at him.
“No.”
His eyes lifted.
“You made choices.”
He swallowed.
“I want my family back.”
I almost felt sorry for him.
Almost.
“You don’t miss your family.”
I stood up.
“You miss the life my family gave you.”
His face tightened.
Then he said something I never expected.
“Vanessa wasn’t acting alone.”
I froze.
“What?”
Grant looked terrified.
“There was someone else.”
“Who?”
He looked toward the window.
Then whispered:
“Your father’s old business partner.”
My heart stopped.
“My father’s partner died ten years ago.”
Grant shook his head.
“No.”
A pause.
“He didn’t die.”
The room went cold.
“He disappeared.”
I stared at him.
“Why are you telling me this now?”
Grant looked down.
“Because he’s coming for Lily.”
For the first time…
I saw real fear in his eyes.
And I knew.

The war was not over.
It had only changed enemies.
