CHAPTER 6 — The Hidden File

CHAPTER 6 — The Hidden File
Three days after Vanessa’s arrest, I thought the worst was over.
I was wrong.
People always believe the truth ends a battle.
It doesn’t.
Sometimes the truth only opens the door to a bigger war.
I was sitting in my office at Carlisle Tower, reviewing the legal documents with my attorney, when my security chief, Daniel, walked in.
His face was serious.
That alone told me something was wrong.
“What happened?” I asked.
He placed a small black folder on my desk.
“We found this hidden inside Grant’s private safe.”
My fingers stopped moving.
“Grant’s safe?”
Daniel nodded.
“The one in your old bedroom.”
For a moment, I couldn’t breathe.
My old bedroom.
The room where I once believed my marriage was safe.
The room where Grant held me after Lily was born and promised me we would always choose each other.
I opened the folder.
The first document made my blood run cold.
A bank transfer.
Then another.
Then another.
All payments from Grant’s personal account.
To Vanessa.
For months.
I looked at Daniel.
“How much?”
He hesitated.
“Over two million dollars.”
My stomach tightened.
“This wasn’t an affair.”
“No.”
Daniel placed another document on the table.
“It was a plan.”
I read the page.
And slowly, the pieces came together.
Grant and Vanessa had not started their relationship recently.
They had been planning something long before I returned.
May you like
They weren’t trying to replace me.
They were trying to erase me.
