Chapter 9 - THE GIRL WHO INHERITED A WAR

The room felt smaller.

Much smaller.

Matthew stared at Anne.

“What did you say?”

Anne looked exhausted.

But there was no fear in her eyes anymore.

Only truth.

“Sarah is not just your daughter.”

Matthew said nothing.

“She is your father’s granddaughter.”

He already knew that.

“But that means
”

Anne nodded.

“Your father changed his will.”

The silence was heavy.

Matthew looked confused.

“My father hated the idea of Sarah.”

“He did.”

“Then why would he leave her anything?”

Anne looked at him.

“Because he found out the truth.”

“What truth?”

“That you were the only person he ever truly trusted.”

Matthew almost laughed.

“My father trusted nobody.”

“That’s why he was dangerous.”

Anne took a shaky breath.

“But before he died, he realized he had made mistakes.”

Matthew looked away.

He didn’t know what to believe anymore.

His entire life was being rewritten.

“My father changed the inheritance?”

“Yes.”

“To Sarah?”

“Yes.”

“How much?”

Anne looked at him.

“All of it.”

Matthew froze.

Sullivan Holdings.

The billions.

The companies.

The properties.

Everything.

A child.

A five-year-old girl.

Was the true owner.

“That’s impossible.”

“No.”

Anne shook her head.

“That’s why people are trying to stop her.”

Matthew looked at Sarah.

She was sitting quietly in the corner, brushing her doll’s hair.

Completely unaware that powerful people were fighting over her future.

She didn’t care about money.

She didn’t care about companies.

She only cared about her mother.

And that made Matthew angry.

Because the world was trying to destroy the purest person in it.

His phone rang.

Unknown number.

He answered.

“Hello?”

A distorted voice spoke.

“Congratulations.”

Matthew’s face changed.

“Who is this?”

“You found Anne.”

“Where are you?”

The person laughed softly.

“But you’re too late.”

Matthew stood.

“What did you do?”

“You should have left the past alone.”

The call ended.

At that exact moment

The lights in the hospital went out.

Everything became black.

Patients screamed.

Alarms started ringing.

Emergency lights flashed red.

Sarah grabbed her mother’s hand.

“Mommy?”

Anne looked terrified.

“Matthew
”

He turned.

“What?”

“Take Sarah.”

“Why?”

“Because they’re here.”

The hallway filled with footsteps.

Fast footsteps.

Someone was coming.

Matthew moved in front of Sarah.

Years of business negotiations.

Years of fighting competitors.

Years of controlling rooms.

None of it mattered now.

He was not a billionaire.

He was a father protecting his child.

A shadow appeared at the end of the hallway.

Then another.

Then another.

Matthew whispered:

“Stay behind me.”

Sarah held Luna the rag doll tightly.

The footsteps came closer.

And then a voice came through the darkness.

“Mr. Sullivan.”

Matthew recognized it.

His blood ran cold.

It was someone he trusted.

Someone who had worked beside him for years.

Someone who knew everything.

The emergency lights flickered.

And standing in front of him was the last person he expected.

Emily.

His personal assistant.

Holding a gun.
