Chapter 12 - THE LAST PLACE THEY EXPECTED

For the first time in his life

Matthew Sullivan felt truly afraid.

Not nervous.

Not worried.

Afraid.

Because money couldn’t help.

Power couldn’t help.

His name couldn’t help.

His daughter was gone.

“Check every camera.”

Matthew’s voice was calm.

Too calm.

That scared everyone around him.

Security moved immediately.

Anne was crying.

“No
”

Matthew turned.

“She’s going to be okay.”

“You don’t know that.”

Her voice broke.

“She lost her whole life because of us.”

Matthew walked toward her.

“No.”

Anne looked at him.

“She lost her childhood because people hurt her.”

He took her hand.

“But she’s not losing her father.”

Anne stared at him.

The man standing in front of her was different.

Twenty years ago, Matthew was a young man who loved her.

Now he was a father.

A protector.

A man who would burn down his entire empire to bring his daughter home.

The security team returned.

“We found something.”

Matthew turned.

“What?”

A video appeared.

Sarah walking out of the hospital.

Holding Luna.

Walking beside someone.

Matthew leaned closer.

Then his heart stopped.

Because the person holding Sarah’s hand was not Charles.

Not David.

Not Emily.

It was Anne’s old neighbor.

A woman named Linda.

Matthew looked confused.

“Who is she?”

Anne whispered:

“She helped me hide.”

The room went silent.

“Then why would she take Sarah?”

Anne shook her head.

“I don’t know.”

The video continued.

Linda took Sarah to a waiting car.

Then the car drove away.

Matthew immediately noticed something.

“Stop.”

The video froze.

“Zoom in.”

Security enlarged the image.

A logo appeared on the car door.

A company logo.

Matthew recognized it.

Sullivan Holdings.

But not the current logo.

The old one.

The logo used twenty years ago.

Anne looked terrified.

“That company doesn’t exist anymore.”

Matthew stared.

“Yes, it does.”

Everyone looked at him.

He lowered his voice.

“Someone brought it back.”

His phone rang.

Unknown number.

This time, Matthew answered.

“Where is my daughter?”

A voice laughed.

“You’re faster than I expected.”

Matthew’s eyes became cold.

“Charles.”

“Hello, Matthew.”

“You took my daughter.”

“No.”

Charles sounded almost offended.

“I saved her.”

“You kidnapped a five-year-old child.”

“I protected the Sullivan legacy.”

Matthew clenched his jaw.

“You’re sick.”

“No.”

Charles’s voice became serious.

“I’m the only one who understands what’s happening.”

“What do you want?”

Silence.

Then:

“The company.”

Matthew laughed.

“You think I’ll trade my daughter for money?”

“No.”

Charles replied.

“I think you’ll trade your entire empire for the truth.”

Matthew froze.

“What truth?”

Charles whispered:

“The truth about who your real enemy is.”

The call ended.

A message appeared seconds later.

One location.

One sentence.

COME ALONE.

Matthew looked at Anne.

She immediately shook her head.

“No.”

“I have to.”

“You’ll die.”

Matthew looked toward the screen showing Sarah.

Then he said something Anne never expected.

“I already lost twenty years.”

A pause.

“I’m not losing another minute.”

He grabbed his coat.

And walked toward the door.

But before he left

David spoke.

“Matthew.”

He stopped.

David looked terrified.

“If you go there
”

“Yes?”

“You’ll finally learn why your father was afraid of your own family.”

Matthew turned.

“And what if I don’t?”

May you like

David answered quietly:

“Then Sarah will learn the same lesson.”
