Chapter 9 - THE TRUTH HIDDEN IN THE LAST VIDEO

Victoria didn’t run.

She didn’t hide.

She simply stood there.

Watching.

Like she wanted me to understand something.

Like she wanted me scared.

I walked toward her.

“What do you want?”

Her smile was calm.

Almost kind.

That made it worse.

“Emily.”

I stopped.

“You know who I am.”

“Unfortunately.”

She laughed softly.

“You always were emotional.”

I felt anger rise.

“You used my son.”

Her expression changed slightly.

“Your son?”

“Yes.”

She stepped closer.

“Do you know what your father did?”

I stared at her.

“This is not about my father.”

“It is.”

“No.”

My voice hardened.

“This is about a child.”

For the first time, her smile disappeared.

“Children are powerful.”

I felt disgust.

“You’re sick.”

She ignored me.

“You think Noah belongs to you.”

“He does.”

She leaned closer.

“But everything connected to him belongs to the Carter family.”

I understood.

The money.

The control.

The obsession.

“You never cared about Noah.”

She smiled again.

“I cared about what he represents.”

Detective Harper arrived before I could say anything else.

Victoria immediately stepped back.

Perfect timing.

Perfect performance.

She looked innocent.

But I noticed something.

She wasn’t afraid.

Not even a little.

That meant she still had something.

That night, Detective Harper showed me the latest evidence.

“We recovered deleted files.”

My heart raced.

“From Ryan’s phone?”

“Yes.”

He opened a video.

At first, it looked like another recording of Noah.

But then I heard voices.

Ryan.

Diane.

Victoria.

All three.

Victoria was speaking.

“The judge needs a pattern.”

Diane answered.

“He’s only four.”

Victoria replied:

“Exactly. People will believe a four-year-old cannot explain himself.”

My stomach turned.

Then Ryan spoke.

“What if Emily finds out?”

Victoria laughed.

“She won’t.”

“Why?”

“Because she trusts you.”

I covered my mouth.

The betrayal hurt differently hearing it.

Not from strangers.

From my husband.

Then Victoria said something that made the detective pause.

“Once Noah is removed, Emily will have nothing left.”

I looked at Detective Harper.

“What does that mean?”

He didn’t answer.

The video continued.

Victoria leaned forward.

“And after the custody hearing…”

A pause.

“Ryan gets what he deserves.”

My heart stopped.

“What?”

Detective Harper rewound.

“Listen.”

The audio played again.

Victoria:

“After the custody hearing, Ryan is no longer useful.”

The room went silent.

Because suddenly I realized something.

Ryan wasn’t the mastermind.

He was another piece on the board.

Victoria wasn’t just trying to take Noah from me.

She was planning to destroy everyone.

Even her own family.

Then my phone rang.

Ryan.

I stared at the screen.

I almost ignored it.

But something told me to answer.

“Emily…”

His voice was broken.

“What happened?”

A long pause.

Then he whispered:

“She knows you found the videos.”

My grip tightened.

“Who?”

“Victoria.”

My blood ran cold.

Ryan continued.

“She’s coming after you.”

“Why are you warning me?”

Silence.

Then he said:

“Because she was never planning to give Noah to me.”

I closed my eyes.

“Then who?”

Ryan’s answer came quietly.

And it changed everything.

“She was planning to make Noah disappear.”

The line went dead.

I stared at my phone.

Because suddenly…

The custody battle wasn’t the biggest danger anymore.

May you like

The person who wanted my son’s money…

Was now willing to take my son himself.
