Chapter 6 - THE FIGHT FOR MY SON BEGINS

I didn’t sleep that night.

Not because I was afraid.

Because I was angry.

A kind of anger I had never felt before.

Someone had looked at my child.

My four-year-old son.

And instead of seeing a little boy who needed love…

They saw money.

A bank account.

An opportunity.

I watched Noah sleep.

His little chest rising and falling.

The same child they called difficult.

The same child they tried to make look dangerous.

I whispered:

“I’m sorry, baby.”

His eyes opened slightly.

“Mommy?”

I smiled through tears.

“Go back to sleep.”

“Are you sad?”

That question almost destroyed me.

Children always know.

Even when adults lie.

“I’m just tired.”

He reached for my hand.

“Don’t leave.”

My heart broke.

“I’m not going anywhere.”

And I meant it.

The next morning, Detective Harper returned.

“We found the trust documents.”

I looked at him.

“And?”

He placed them on the table.

“The trust is worth twelve million dollars.”

My stomach dropped.

Twelve million.

For Noah.

Not Ryan.

Not Diane.

Not Victoria.

Noah.

The detective continued.

“The trust cannot be accessed until Noah turns twenty-five.”

“So they can’t take it.”

“Not directly.”

“Then why?”

He looked at me.

“Because whoever controls Noah’s guardianship controls his future.”

I understood.

They didn’t need the money today.

They needed control.

I looked at the papers.

“What happens next?”

“The custody hearing.”

My chest tightened.

“When?”

“Three days.”

Three days.

That was all the time I had.

Three days to prove my husband and his family had tried to destroy me.

Three days to protect my son.

That afternoon, I received another surprise.

Ryan’s attorney contacted me.

He wanted a meeting.

I almost refused.

But Detective Harper told me something important.

“Sometimes people reveal more when they think they are winning.”

So I agreed.

The meeting happened at a small office downtown.

Ryan walked in.

He looked different.

Tired.

Broken.

But I couldn’t forget what he did.

He sat across from me.

“Emily…”

I didn’t answer.

He looked down.

“I made mistakes.”

I laughed quietly.

“Mistakes?”

His eyes filled with regret.

“I never wanted Noah hurt.”

“Then why did you record it?”

He had no answer.

Finally he whispered:

“Because I was scared.”

“Of what?”

He looked at me.

“Of losing everything.”

I stared at him.

“You were willing to lose your son?”

“No.”

“Then what was the plan?”

He looked away.

And that told me.

There was still more.

“Ryan.”

He swallowed.

“Victoria promised everything would work out.”

My eyes narrowed.

“What does that mean?”

He rubbed his face.

“She said you would never win against us.”

“Us?”

The word echoed.

Because Ryan had just admitted something.

There was an entire group against me.

Not just Diane.

Not just him.

More people.

I stood.

“I’m done.”

As I turned away, Ryan grabbed the table.

“Emily.”

I stopped.

His voice changed.

For the first time…

He sounded afraid.

“You need to understand something.”

I looked back.

“What?”

He whispered:

“Victoria isn’t trying to get Noah’s money.”

A chill moved through me.

“Then what does she want?”

Ryan looked directly into my eyes.

“She wants revenge.”

I froze.

“Revenge for what?”

Ryan’s face went pale.

And then he said:

“Your family.”

I stared at him.

Because suddenly…

This was no longer just about custody.

May you like

Someone had been waiting years to hurt me.

And Noah was the weapon they chose.
